Genes Poems Young Man - 1995 |

Right about the same time that Misty and I started dating, I was going through a period of great anger toward the world over my lot in life up to that time. Im largely over it all now, as the second half of my life has been relatively charmed so far. At the time, however, the anger and frustration were hard to control, so I channeled them a bit more positively than I might otherwise have done, into poems like this one. Young Man A young man confronted with all of the fearsWhich his life has collected throughout all the years Will oftentimes find it harder to cope And oftentimes wonder if really theres hope. Damned from the start he waits for the end, Striving to fix the things he cant mend. And just when he finds things under control Something new comes along to wrench out his soul. Anger is stirring deep deep within, Preventing the healing he needs to begin. All of his life hes lived with such strife (With lack of stability more sharp than a knife) Convinced as he is that its somehow deserved, Every crueltys inside him, each one preserved. The young man who sees no answer in sight Will look on the world with a heart filled with fright. The helplessness seeping through every shed tear Is really a prayer that the ending is near. But strong as he is from surviving such pain (And knowing that endings leave nothing to gain) He straightens himself and faces his ghost, Determined to live, or to at least coast. |
